We have a cemetery fence around yard (pvc and 1x2's) with posts every 8 feet. The posts fairly are substantial made of 4 1x4's boxed. (I'll raid hubbys phone when he gets home and try to find a pic) Last year to hold them in place we used two surveyors stakes driven into the ground at a slight "v" and set the posts on top of them. It worked but left some large holes in the yard.

Looking for new ideas or how others are doing it. Thought about rebar and zipties but worried it would allow them to lean or shift. Fence is 20 or so 8' panels so there is a fair bit of stress on it. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I use rebar in the center of my posts. Here are a few pics of the inside of one my posts.

I centered the PVC pipe in the middle of the post with some squares with appropriate sized holes. I then used a piece of 2X2 at the top and some long drywall screws to hold the pipe in there.

Then I just slip the post over a piece of rebar like this.

I use zip ties and rebar to secure my columns to the ground. They are 6 1/2 ft tall but only weigh about 7 lbs each. I haven't had any problems with shifting or leaning with mine. I was very concerned with the wind blowing them over because they are so tall. I originally was going to secure the columns using rebar going thru the pvc pieces. But that didn't work. I tried to glue the pvc to the wood, but the pvc wouldn't stay attached. The pvc is no longer there. So I drilled holes in the 1 x 2's and put the zip ties thru the holes and secured the rebar to the 1 x 2"s (exactly where the pvc is located). One piece of rebar at each corner. I hope that makes sense??
