    Hi guys,

I've looked around but, can't find how the cement tubes (half columns) to the crypt are cut or how to attach them to the wood. I'm using plywood and attaching the tubes right to the wood. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'll have to do it tomorrow or Sun. at the latest. Temps are dropping to the high 60's next week and we are expecting rain.

I'm no carpenter, but couldn't you use some type of "L" bracket and anchor the tubes to the wood that way?

The tubes are thin pressed cardboard so there really isn't anything to anchor the L brackets to. They tubes are also round, so when cut in half, don't make a flat surface for the L to lay against.

I would cut some pieces of wood to fit into the half column and attach with screws thru the front of the column. Then mount them using screws from the inside wall of the plywood.

I cut my sonotubes (okay, the hubby did) with a circular saw. I measured the middle and snapped a chalk line, then he sawed, I held the thing steady. I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but it worked just fine and took like two minutes.

I think if you're building out of wood, Deadna's suggestion of the wood/screws would work. Those sonotubes are THICK and coated with some sort of moisture barrier, so drilling some holes into it isn't going to hurt and it'll be pretty sturdy.

Thanks guys. I think I just might go with pvc columns and not mount these to the walls like I've seen in a couple crypts. With the pvc I wouldn't have to worry too much about water proofing them also. Ty Frankie's Girl for the how-to on the cutting. I have a circular saw so that would be pretty fast. My first thought was the table saw but, I could see it ripping the thing apart pretty badly.
