This is last year set up. Still going with the pirate theme. Adding a shipwreck to the front yard with some animated pirate skeletons this year. That gets started this weekend. I can't get that pink foam near me either so I set a freight truck up to Northern Ca to pick up a half a pallet load of the stuff for me. Obsessive? Bah! Who cares? I love pink foam.
I wanted to be able to engage trick or treaters more than I could at my front door. So I went with the ships side set up inside the front of my garage. I run Hallowindow in the center of if with a pretty large sub woofer and some nice speakers. Makes the walls rattle LOL. Let's see. I made the walls, I made the bar, the skull and cross bones are made from a large skull purchased at Michael's and I hand carved the cross bones for it. I made almost all of the skeletons out of foam skulls and paper mache bodies. Gave them some ruffled pirate clothes I made. The clothes were fun. I rectangular piece of white linen. Spray paint blue or red stripes on it. Cut a hole out in the center for the head, then carve it up. Threw it in the washing machine and then a high heat dry. Rolled it around in the dirt and stuck the skeleton head through the hole. The teeth in the skeleton heads are made from hot glue. I wanted them to be more accentuated that they might really be. made the fence work, but am switching that out this year for a more nautical type of fence. The standing red skeleton was a purchase. I'll post some pictures of the new stuff as it is finished.

Nice set up. Looking at the driveway I had a picture pop into my head of two ships fighting it out. One on each side of the driveway. Cannons firing confetti up in the air, lights flashing, a pirate swining over head and such.

Haha Saw props. Nah, too grisly for me. My goal for this is to ultimately have the front of the ship on the right side of the yard and the rear of the ship on the left side of the yard appearing as though the ship is broken in three pieces, the left (rear) side, the facade in the garage and the right side (front). I'll have the front of the ship done this year and will build the rear of the ship next year. I have been continuously building this up for the past 5-6 years. It has been at two different houses now. By the time we moved from out last location, we would see people bringing kids in by van and dropping them off in front of us. At that location we were up to about 250-300 visitors on Halloween night. At this new house we have been doing it for 2 years (this is our 3rd) and we are up to about 90-120 visitors on Halloween night. I guess the news van was trying to find us last year but couldn't figure it out LOL. My pirate costume is all custom done (mostly my own work). It weighs about 65 pounds and I am wore out by the end of the night.
