Can you list your mixture(paint to drywall mud)? Without seeing it I would guess the mixture was to dry or you put it on to heavy...any pics?

What type of material are you using the monster mud on??? What ratio did you use making the monster mud??? Post some pics so we can see the problem.

Drywall ( & monster mud ) if dries too fast & especially when you put on thick coats will shrink too fast causing cracking.......
Leaving it in too hot of an area when drying should be avoided & best to put on thinner coats if you are in hotter spot.
Moving air dries better than heat, but can also pull the moister out of drywall compound / MM too fast & cause small cracking.
Nothing you can really do, just let it dry good & skim over it to fill in the cracks best you can,..of course being a Halloween prop, could add to it !When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I had that same problem, it was the areas that was layered on too thick because where I put that was not as thick dried fine. I just skimmed over it again thinly and let dry again and it was fine. when I painted over the mud it helped the real tiny cracked areas then sealed it.

Maybe it dried too fast. Here are the materials I used. I put it on pink foam (Owens Corning) and didn't put it on too thick. I think I used 2 parts drywall compound to 1 part paint. I added sand too. It was about as thick as really thick batter. If I grabbed a handful it would glob between my fingers. If it was put on too thick it would drip a bit.

personally i think its cool! if its not chipping off it looks cool with the cracks. its either temperature or too much on it. what happens is the inner layer dries awhile outer layer is still wet if theres to much and it starts to crack. but id leave it. it looks cool!

I noticed in your pics that you used acrylic latex. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not???? I have always used "latex" not "acrylic latex". There is a difference. "Latex" is a water based paint and "Acrylic Latex" has a chemical base that gives it more elasticity. Personally, I would think that more elasticity would help keep the monster mud from cracking?? But, I don't know if mixing it with the drywall compound causes a chemical reaction that may cause it to crack more easily??? Just a thought??? Anyway... I think it looks cool with the cracks. What is it??
