So 2011 marks the purchase of my first home, as well as the undertaking of moving in during the month of February and trying a big undertaking of a build at the same time (plus 60-70 hr. work weeks - but that's another frightening tale for another time.)
At any rate, being a SoCal resident (the beautiful San Fernando Valley to be exact), I don't have access to pink foam, so I decided that I would make my columns indestructible aka make them from MDF.
I present to you, the 45% complete cemetery column:
The lamp post is powered by a flicker circuit, so it'll be nice and creepy for all the kids in the neighborhood.
I still need to dry lock and/or monster mud it to seal and give it more brick like texture. I'm open to any and all suggestions on how I should treat this beast to protect it and give it a more realistic look and feel.
Anyhow, enjoy and I look forward to all your comments.

Hey, your off the a great start with the columns. I think you should just finish up the brick and use some dryloc on the wood trim to make it look like stone. Not much to improve. I think you have a good start on a great pair of columns. Congrats on the new house too.

This looks fantastic!
If I may ask, what did you use for the bricks.... brick siding or paneling or pieces?

Hey! What else are you planning for your haunt? You're really close to me - maybe I can stop by for the big event! If you're new to the area, be sure to check out House of Restless Spirits, in Santa Monica. Verrrry well done effects!

Its going to be a pretty basic setup, since it's our first year. Just the columns, a few headstones, webs & basic lighting.

It looks awesome. The only thing I suggest is that you fill the joints really well with wood filler or caulk or something like that before painting them. I have see quite a few really great looking wood columns look kind of off after they get painted, because you can see the underlying wood seams. Can't wait to see more of the progress pics!!
