Hello everyone! Need to simulate corrosion/rust on some brand new nails and screws for props I am creating for a haunt. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Well ur best bet is to spray paint it. You would wanna do it from a distance, hold the can about 1-2 feet back. Spray paint it brown. Than from even a slightly farther distance use black spray paint to do some black dots on it. Hope I helped

Haven't tried it myself and it looks like a pita but the effect looks impressive based on the photos...

I remembered that Kingswood Asylum does a product called Brutal Rust that looked pretty cool:

Guaranteed to rust any surface in one hour

If you do a search on the forum for "rust" (do the title search otherwise it will pull up tons of threads that are not really what you're looking for) you can find some other DIY methods as well.

Sand them a little and spray on some hydrogen peroxide. I know it works on car hoods.

Take a coupon to Michael's and pick up a Sophisticated Finishes - Rust Antiquing Kit. It contains two small bottles...one with a metal based paint and another with a chemical to make it rust as nature would do it. I've used this on large props, wooden sword props, small knife props, etc.

I spray paint flat black, paint darker brown with sand thrown on the paint and leave the cracks black, lightly dry brush orange-brown and then a clear matte coat to hold the sand on.

How awesome---I know that Kingwood Asylum place! Their house is quite close to where I live and even closer to my old house. These folks do it right--very cool rust effect too.
