My costume was inspired by watching Husk last night... I need some nails welded to some steel rings so I can wear them on my fingers under a glove for halloween. I've thought of every way possible to do this, and welding them is the only thing thats going to keep them on.

    Ooh! I found a pic!

See, the killer scarecrows in the movie drive nails through their fingers, then use them as weapons. I want something to look like that. Going to wear a glove over it of course, so the nails can be welded to steel rings I wear over my fingers.

If anyone can think of a way to keep them attached without having to mail them out to be welded, I'm open to suggestions.

If someone here welds and wants to make a few bucks doing 3 mins worth of welding work, let me know I'll mail you out the nails and rings, all pre-cut and ready to weld, and you can mail em back.

I know this isnt technically a prop - but the prop builder forum is most likely to have the welders in it.

Now I'm wishing I didnt sell my arc welder 2 years ago

Where in the world are you located? I'm sure if you were within an hour or two of here, my Old Man would do the job for ya. But chances of that are.. slim to none and slim left the building.

Maryland, but I've no problem dropping them in the mail with a pre-paid return envelope if he'd slap some welds on there quick. I still need to get the rings for them (I just came up with this idea today but could get them mailed out in a few days.

You might try finding to find a body shop or a welding shop in your area, that way you could show the person exactly what you want. If not I could probably help you out. What size nails, and thickness and type of metal of the rings?

If you want to cover postage both to and from Florida, I'd be happy to pop them together for you gratis. It's really not going to cost me anything so that's the price I'd charge. Just pm me with the particulars and maybe I can help.

Thanks for the offers guys. Give me a few days to get the stuff together... once I have it I'll send a PM and we'll get them shipped out.

I was going to go with standard steel nails and some steel or iron pipe. If theres anything I need to be aware of to make a better weld let me know. Obviously - steel cannot be welded to aluminum. I know that much. Any steel/iron issues I need to be aware of? I used to arc weld a bit, but never got really into it.

Why not bend them or cut them and epoxy them to the ring?

Because I've never epoxied anything that ever had any strong staying power. I may try it and see, but unless there's a huge wad of epoxy it never seems to have any real strength.
