Just bought a Ouija Board just to use as a display for our Halloween party but my Partner is panicking that people will use it and we will end up with a haunted house like Paranormal Activity. Anyone else had a similar dilemma.

I was going to do the same thing and hide the planchette. Its not so much the board but the energy of the people using it and the will to attract a spirit. If you are worried just learn how to close the board properly. There are sites that can explain that. Have fun!

well i have well over 50 ouija boards at my house and have yet to receive any "paranormal" activity, to my dismay. You may want to remind your partner that movies are not real life

Over fifty ouijas, really? Why? We have two; a glow in the dark one, and a regular one.

It's a board game put out by Parker Brothers and copied extensively... I would tell your partner that they have just as much chance of an unfriendly spirit invading your house if you played Candyland.

The origins of the talking board (Ouija is a brand name) are similar to almost all of the psychic phenomena props over the centuries - tarot cards, crystal balls, etc... they are tools and can't hurt you. I have read tarot cards for close to 20 years, and I'm not scared of my cards doing anything but getting bent up if I shuffle them too fast.[The planchette's movement] may be parsimoniously explained by unconscious movements of those controlling the pointer, a psychophysiological phenomenon known as the ideomotor effect. Despite being debunked by the efforts of the scientific community, Ouija remains popular among many young people.

To be honest I'm thinking of buying some remote control dimmer switches for the house and fitting them just before the party then if anyone does use the board I can dim the lights without moving when they ask a question and give them a bit of a scare.

Yeah, Ouija boards are a board game. They're not real.
you'll be fine.

who's to say if they are real or not? my point is they are a tool, just like dice or any other form of divination; using a ouija doesn't automatically invite spirits, but in the right hands who knows? btw love the remote dimmer switch idea (insert evil smiley here)
