Can anyone post links to YouTube videos demonstrating things like Hallowindow with a cheap projector? By cheap I mean USD $100 or less bought new. Something "holiday" or kid's grade I guess. I really don't want to chase after used projectors on eBay. Some people get really picky. And one person's 'bad' is another's 'sufficient.'
So I can predict people will still make the argument of buying used. But that's not what I'm asking. I'd like to see what low-end projectors can do. Surely someone has made them work for halloween effects?
Guess I'd be willing to go up to $150 for a new projector.
Also, please keep in mind that I don't have any large picture or bay windows to project onto. That must impact peoples' decision on how much they pay for a new, and not used, projector. Or perhaps they also want to use a projector for non-halloween purposes, e.g. to project TV or movies. Not me. Blurry and somewhat faint may be perfectly fine for an after-dark projection onto a small, non-picture/bay window.

Unfortunately, I don't know if the crafty projectors you're thinking about have video inputs. My projector is a standard video projector, but I don't have Hallowindow.

Some of those projectors do have video inputs, the problem has been you need absolute darkness, pending how big you go the colors wash out & sharpness has dulled down.
I don't know of anyone here that either went with a new or used 800 - 1000 min. lums projector, or not at all.
I can understand your thought - what may not be acceptable to some, you may be ok with. At the cost of projectors / what we buy to put on a few hr show for ToTers, understandable to want to only spend what you have to or find acceptable terms.....
I have heard of a couple of $100-140 ($70 sale same units ) kiddie projectors that were found to be ok with Hallowindow type projections.....but had to what til dark & that killed some of the time they had at dusk & that it was viewable on a 4-5ft ( 6ft pushing it & still get some clarity & color ) window, but not as sharp as hoped ( still ok-ish ) & that the colors were not as vibrant as hoped...........I personally wish there were good cheap projectors as I have too many cool projections & hard to choose from & only a couple of units to use them on.
I think if you can find one to test out but be able to return for your money, I'd try it & see how it works for you. I have seen these type at riteaid on sale for $65-70.
Don't know of anyone with vids to help other than going onto youtube & seeing some reviews there.......
Guess that's the best 2 cents info I can put out on the table for you as to minimal response.......hope that helps a bit. When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

Thanks Ballston and DarkLord. DarkLord that does help. You made many good points--esp. about requiring complete darkless / losing "effect" / "show" hours pre-dusk with the cheapie projectors. But also about trying one out as long as there's a good return policy. Then I can see for myself. And possibly post a demo video with whatever model(s) I pick. Don't know if I'll grab a projector this season or not. I've got other effects I want to build first, e.g. an FCG, Pepper's Ghost, and possibly a combo of the two.

YouTube - Hallowindow Demo Not sure if this link still works, but I posted it last year in this forum
last year about projectors. I bought an optoma pk301- has to be dark. You can also search video projector suggestions.... in this forum there was some great info there too. I didn't know how to forward it here.

was looking at the shrper image site and found this http://www.sharperimage.com/si/view/.../101017?trail= i don't know how well it works but it might be worth a try for only 99 bucks! the small size would make it easy to hide!

I bought a Cinemin Swivel for my usual garage projection in my waiting area. I'm pretty impressed with it. It was a little over a hundred, but it is led. The brightness is surprising. I'm going to do a test in my bay window this weekend. I'll try to tape it.
I like how I can use my ipod with it. It really makes it easy to use.

75 lums........hmmmmm
Truthful that would be nice for the price, but somehow I know that advertised always seems to never come close to what we have when we get home.....
Really wish someone was able to work something out with these company's to do some testing with these different small / low cost projectors say a Hallowindow & a GGG projection & get some real honest feedback & vid examples........
It would help a lot for us & I'm sure others & the companies that sell these to open up the market better for all - if they worked for stuff like what we need it for.....When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........
