Hey all! I'm getting purty-darn excited about Halloween! I've been working on my mine cart. I was going to make it more animated, but it's getting too late so this year it'll probably just be static (maybe a small motor to rock it). I've got the foam to cut and cover the frame and will be posting updates as I go.

Oh PVC, is there anything that can't be made out of you?

Love it. What are you going to put in it?

Gonna put a ghost in it (or skelly) and a lantern in front. I think it'll look pretty kickin' if I can figure out the foam cutting thing.

Got the foam for the sides cut... I've never done pink foam carving, so this is a new experience to me - let's just say I learned alot. Here's one side most of the way carved:

For having no foam cutting experience that looks really good. Of course it will come down to painting whether it looks good or not. I think I saw a tutorial some place that talked about faux-wood finishing.

Thanks, guys! So, here's the latest. I worked on this tonight - got a Dremel on Monday (well - y'know, off-name Dremel from HF). Learned a couple more things. #1 rule, if you're using that dern wire brush attachment, be sure to wear goggles. I was fine the rest of the time, but I've got pink foam all over me.

So, front and back are carved - I figure 2 more nights and this thing will be ready to paint!

Any suggestions on how to weather-proof it?

Tonight's work: I'm getting better at making it actually look like wood!!

Lesson learned tonight: If you have a dust mask on your face and a dremel in your hand and need to sneeze, put the dremel down long enough to take off the mask and sneeze.

Quick update - Got the last side cut out and initial painting on the wood. I love the way the rotted wood turned out!

So, now I need ideas/suggestions for painting/rusting a metal look on the bands and rivets. Anyone?

Lastly, to protect it from the elements, will polyurethane do? Anyone know? Other suggestions? Thanks!

You are doing awesome work. I too have a new found love of PVC, pink foam, and old paint.
