    Hello Everyone,

These are to toxic waste barrels that I made. I plan to drill holes in the top and hook a fog machine to the bottom of them. I also plan on attaching a green LED strip to the top. My question is these LED strips are make for a car (12v). Is there a way to modify that so they can be plugged into a regular wall socket?

    Thanks in advance.

You might want to try a plain socket (lamp style) with a screw in green "party bulb" instead of the LED. You may get a
brighter more intense light with the LED's, but splicing it together in order to modify it from car volts to house volts may
prove to be an unnecessary fire hazard. If you put the bulb low enough in the barrel, the fog should conceal it anyway.

    Hope this helps, Marc V.

You could run them off of an old computer power supply if you have one laying around somewhere. You just to jump a couple of points on the mother board connector, then you can use the switch on the power supply to turn it off/on.

You can get adapters of your choice here: http://www.12vadapters.com/ Or if they are the type designed for connecting to lighter sockets, and the sockets are still attached: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer...ogy/PWR120V12/

If you feel comfortable enough rewiring them a little, you can hook them up to something like this:

Normally I recommend converting a computer power supply, but if all you want is 12V power, these are perfect. 2 amps is plenty to run LOTS of LEDs.

    For an easier solution:

500mA (.5 amps) is still plenty... just check your required amperage on the product if you're planning on also getting a car splitter

    and running multiple strips.

You can use a standard household wall wort transformer (like for a cordless drill) to output 12V. Just splice the wires into a female house plug and plug in your LED strip.

Unless this is just something you happen to have, and you happen to have a spare or really cheap power supply too, there are already other cost effective ways to get green light in those barrels. Green Christmas lights, rope lights, green spot lights, or green party bulbs are already things made to run off of a normal outlet that will generate plenty of green light. So if it is going to take more money to "adapt" these, you might look at the alternatives first.
