Hey all, got a Valeo motor out of a 99 Yukon today for my casket prop (free yeah!). I want a constant motion to lift lid up and down no triggers, switches or other complex issues needed or wanted, plug in= on, unplug = off.
Autozone schematic I got online shows that black (obviously) is the ground, yellow is the power supply and the green, grey and purple are for the parking feature or as it says on the schematic "pulse".
I have read and re-read Scary Terry's page and most of the posts on this site regarding motors and still have a question as the complicated set ups are just confusing my blond head.
When I apply the 12v power supply directly from my trolling motor battery the motor makes a couple of revolutions and then stops. So.. is this thing a dud and I need to just buy a new one or am I missing something with the wiring which is what I suspect. Do I need to do something with the other wires beyond just ignoring them and connecting the ground and yellow to the poles of my battery?
Is that parking feature everyone is talking about causing this thing to stop after a revolution or two? If so how do I override this to just keep it spinning for a couple of hours a night?
Motor has harness attached with wires so if I need to "jump" two pins this would basically be just twisting two wires on the harness together correct? (if so which ones? )

I'm on vacation this week so I really need to get this prop done next day or two so all help is greatly appreciated.

Applying power to the yellow wire only will trigger the park feature. According to the schematic, you need to apply power to the dark green, grey, purple, and yellow wires, although there is a resistor in line with the dark green wire (value isn't listed.) You could try applying power to any and every combination of the wires (except the black one) & see what happens - you shouldn't hurt anything. It would probably be easier to open up the motor housing (where the wires go in) and bypass the circuitry all together. You should be able to find 2 wires that go to the motor - just apply power to one and ground to the other. You can probably reverse the rotation of the motor by switching those 2 wires, too.

Thanks for the help, I was afraid of burning the thing out so went back and re-tried everything again with the volt meter. Turns out it was the purple wire... the connection on it was dirty so when testing earlier it did not do anything. Attached it to a 4.5v. wall wort to get ~6-8 rpm. Just two wires the ground and the purple to get 'er spinning.
Now if I can just get the linkage to cooperate I will be in business. The casket lid is awful heavy had to fabricate a shock absorber out of a spring and PVC to take the weight.
I'll post pics when I get the prop completed.

Did you try the unit at full voltage? The purple wire appears to be the high speed on the wiper, it appears that the gray wire is the slow speed. Glad you got it going!!

You are way under-powering your motor with a 4.5 volt wall wart. I would use a full 12 volt power supply with at least 3 amp capability, more if you can get it. A wiper motor wired to the low speed side with a solid power supply should have no trouble lifting a heavy lid, assuming you have reasonable geometry in your linkage. If you need to slow the motor down, use this DC motor speed controller. It allows full use of the wiper motor's torque and power; something you're giving away with your current power supply.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be...
