Hey everyone! I'm trying to find a source for good foam sheets (to be carved and turned into tombstones) in the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately, it appears we are stuck with the yellow sheets of foam that have a foil lining, which is very hard to remove.

Anyone have any luck finding another foam (not white/beaded) in this area? Or, anyone have tips on removing the foil/paper lining. Do heat guns work?

As always, many many thanks and I hope your projects are coming along nicely!

I was told the pink is carried at some of the Home Depot stores in Orange County, specifically Cypress and Orange. I have been meaning to get down there, but will need to rent a vehicle large enough to hold a few sheets.

The stores that carry it sell it as a hobby item - it's apparently not legal for construction work in California.

I will give them a call tomorrow. Would need to use a van myself. Need about 4 sheets.

I'm southeast of you out in the hot, hot desert and we can get it at Lowe's - but only half-inch, and only in 2x8 sheets. And it's still expensive. I have learned to make do with the white. It's not that bad once you learn to work with it.

I purchased the hot wire tools. Got totally tired of the dust from the beaded. There is a thread here of some fantastic work with the white and it's where I was told where to get the pink. I will see if I can find it and post a link. Here's the link:

JohnnyL - If you're close to me, I'd be willing to split the cost and share the trip to OC.

Last year (I have not looked for it this year) I got 2'x8' sheets of blue foam board from Lowe's in San Diego. Home Depot only has the white beaded and the "foil" type that you described. I agree with DireDebb in that people do some amazing work withe white beaded (although I haven't tried myself).

There have been other threads with other locations posted. Here's one: Pink foam allert in orange county,ca

Scroll down to the post by Affine. He uses the white foam to build some pretty amazing props.
