I just purchase a couple 4-foot tall aliens and would like to build an alien spaceship to go along with the aliens. Anyone have any suggestions and pictures on how to build a simple, relatively inexpensive, but respectable looking spaceship?

Lots of people have made one by putting together a couple of the big old satellite dishes. I know there are some ideas on the monsterlist/hauntproject sites as well.

can you weld? if so get yourself some 3/16 inch cold roll rod and essentially make the shape of the saucer with it. Basically a cage frame if you will then cover it with R-Tech 1/2inch foam board. Paint, light and ready to go.

Depending on the size your looking for.... I'm guessing something realistic to seat 4' tall aliens right? I would go with a PVC frame (make a star shape frame or asterik) from there use the PVC to make a frame going up an down about 5-6' long to help give shape. Now you can paint that all black and then use christmas lights as mentioned above so give it some shape or start hording up boxes and a lot of duck tape, then let the work begin. That shouldn't cost too much, PVC will be the most expensive material (don't glue it though, then you can take it apart for easy storage, at least the frame) Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

If you have access to one of those personal trampolines like this LINK: one I think you would have a good foundation for the space ship rim. Add some additional material to build up the ship's body around the outer rim area, maybe with cut foam board and painted it silver or whatever, some lighting underneath, add a seat back or two for the pilots and then you'd need something to form the dome. I'd think along the lines of foam board sheets cut to form the support frame of the dome or if you need more structure then use lightweight wood. Maybe some clear window film (for sealing drafty windows) would work for the "glass" on the dome area. It wouldn't have to be a totally clear dome bubble just something that looked otherworldly. Add some lighting inside the cockpit to illuminate your seated pilots. Even a well placed low lying fogger could add some additional realism to the space under the ship (think about protecting any lighting underneath from the fogger condensation).
BTW if you don't know anyone with a personal trampoline to borrow, check out listings under Craig's List, yard sales in your newspaper, or even sports equipment stores that do resales (like Play It Again), for a better price.

I built one from two 8 ft satelite dishes and a street light dome. I t turned out pretty good. Chasing lights around the edge and a strobe on top lights it up pretty well.
