Hey all. Im relatively new to prop building (this will be my second year for Halloween displays) and I need a little help incorporating sound into a scare. I want a scary figure to appear in a frame with a light but I have no ideal how to add a loud scream when the prop is activated. I plan on making this a manually triggered prop, like a simple momentary switch. When triggered, a light will come on to light the figure from the shadows and hopefully a blood-curdling scream will accompany the prop. Anyone know of a simple, preferably cheap, sound source system I could throw together that will make this happen? I have some old MP3 players and computer speakers and an old portable CD player, but dont have an elaborate system like DMX or a prop controller. Thanks in advance!

There are many ways to add sounds to props. Many years ago I had a casette player that I would power up when triggered. It was okay and never synched with the prop very well. These days there are a lot of electronics solutions.
Here is a 50 second audio player that some on this site have used and it's relatively inexpensive. Something like this is a good first attempt to adding audio to a prop. http://www.electronics123.com/s.nl/it.A/id.2841/.f If 50 seconds is to short they have a 300 second module for a little more coin.
Something like this can be used in what you're describing, triggering your light can also trigger a relay that simulates the play button being pressed.
There are other audio players available and the price rises quickly.Boo!

All I can say is wow! Thanks so much for the heads up on this one Jack Skellington! This is exactly what I was looking for. No wiring, self contained, battery powered...count me in!
