Pounds lifting is sorta a relative term. Almost any motor can lift 50 pounds if it's geared correctly. It wont do it FAST, but it will do it. it's all about torque. Kinda like how the engine in your car can make you go 5 MPH or 90 MPH and never go above 2000 RPM - it has to do with the gearing.
A standard wiper motor, if rigged up to a pulley system, should be able to do it... but it all depends on the weight, how fast you need it to go, etc.
And something to consider... once it's lifted into place, how are you gonna drop it again? It's tied to the motor... you'll need to disengage the tension somehow.

I like the way that works, very cool. The servo will not lift much. you could get some big ones, but they are big bucks. you could rig this wirh two wiper motors, have the turn motor return to park position, then just hit the moter for a moment, if you had it on a timer you could adjust it right. the retrieve one would work the same as a timed retrieve
