Our haunt them this year is alien invasion/nuclear disaster.
I was unable to sleep last night so i decided to see if i could cram a 3 watt led and driver board inside an old glass and metal needle i have laying around.
It took alittle work but i got everything inside. The 3 watt led is glued to the tip of the plunger and the wire routes though a small hole. the driver board is hidden above the plunger and a pair of wires exits another hole in the top to attach a battery and switch if needed. To get the board to fit in the needle case, i needed to solder the capatictor with a short wire and move an inductor to the side. I sealed the rest of the board in tape to prevent any shorts. and with a simple 9 volt battery i get a very bright light and a creepy looking needle.
I also found that it made a nice nuclear projection when on, this is just a happy coincidence.
I attached pictures of the needle on, and the shape it casts on walls.

I'm having a nuclear party too, but more along the lines of the Zombie side of it. I was wondering what other decor and things your doing for it. By the way that is AWESOME!!! That needle is so cool.

We do a rather large yard display, we have all kinds of industrial tanks painted up, fog machines everywhere, lights of all kinds, since were doing the alien side, were crashing space ships, large doors, tunnels. we are working on a laminar jet to shoot water over the house. we have collected every construction light and beacon lights we could find. anything with an industrial feel to it.
I have some of the stuff documented on the projects page,

or on youtube.com as webbj548
