I had some fun experimenting with blood tonight! Don't worry, it was fake, but I got to make it!
It is part of a witches kitchen I am making this year.

Great looking bottle of blood! What recipe did you use?

There are other holidays besides Halloween? When did they start that?

Thanks!
The recipe I used was this:
Recipe for the blood (For my bottle I did the recipe x3 to give you a guess how much it makes):
Realistic Recipe
2/3 c. Corn Syrup
1/3 c. Warm Water
5 Tbsp Corn Starch
4 tsp red food coloring
1 Tbsp Powdered Cocoa
2 drops of green or yellow food coloring ( I added 2 drops of green, never tried yellow. I wanted the too much iron in the blood look, like my own)
Mix the corn starch with the water in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the corn syrup. Add the food coloring slowly, checking for color.
Other recipes for fun and good edible are at this site: http://www.halloween-website.com/fake_blood.htm
Again, this was kind of an experiment so I did not know what to expect. I left the blood for probably a good 12 hours. It seems to have "coagulated" at the top so there is a semi ring, and in the night it has separated, so half the bottle is dark dark red and the bottom half is lighter red. A simple swirl of the bottle or sticking a stir stick in it will probably mix it all back up, though the two tone makes it look really cool.

I personally prefer it without a label...guests will look at it, and wonder..."Hm, what is that? Sure looks like blood..."
I think that's a little creepier.
Great prop!

Looks like a Patron Tequila bottle. Did you have fun emptying it?
Boo!

I haven't gotten to any of the labels on the bottles yet.. hehe.

I could see what you mean and I debated on just this bottle not having a label. Still thinking about it. All the other bottles and jars I am making will most likely have them.
Oh you know your Tequila too well my friend! I am actually a bartender right now, so I get bottles for free from my work (lucky me!!!).
When they are empty I can take them and do whatever I want with them, just so happens they are useful for a witches kitchen haha.

Looks good! I agree, that bottle is fantastic. I kind of like the label idea, but that's me.
Two suggestions:
1) Use a drop or two of blue to darken it a bit. Be careful, blue food coloring is crazy powerful.
2) Try using milk instead of cornstarch as an opacifier. It will kill the corn syrup's translucency without making it look as solidly opaque as cornstarch does. Almond milk works really well because it's already tan, and it doesn't spoil as easily as a dairy product.

The problem with my camera is it wont capture the true color of anything really which sucks... I use a flash and its super bright. The blood is DARK, almost like a black in person. I plan to keep this in a sealed jar without messing with it or putting anything else in it. If I put milk that will spoil.. I rather not make blood every single year for one bottle. But I made this early to see how it will look by the time halloween comes around. If it looks bad, Ill pour it out and make new stuff but if it seems alright Ill keep it.
