Hello Fellow Haunter's,
Well this will be my second year doing a grave yard in my yard, and I would like to add some lighting to it.I have scene numerous photos of cool green, blue and orange lighting effects on tombstones and other props. I would love to duplicate such effects. However I am not sure what type of lights to buy and secondly not sure what would be safe for outdoors. The last thing I want is for someone to get hurt.
Thank You in advance, Daren

Personally I would go 12v, its much safer. I also would say you should go with led's, I use MR-16's in a custom waterproof holder. As far as colors i use green and red and a little blue, and other effects like strobes and fog. hope this helps,

I am pretty low tech...

$5 weatherproof spotlight stakes from Walgreens, colored floodlights bought either from Lowes, Home Depot or Walgreens (picked up clearanced LED PAR38s in red and green a few years ago).

Red spot staked into the ground, blacklight fixture in the crypt, and two green floods in the roofline (there's a purple in the porch light, just a regular "party bulb" - but all of it looks much brighter than it was...)

You can see the spotlight in this pic - it's a blue one, and the two greens up on the roofline were the major lighting that year. Looked really good, but I need to build some tombstones that will hide the actual spots...I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

what kind of budget do you have? I suggest LED lighting! You can get one color stand alone fixtures or RED GREEN BLUE fixtures that you can then set as a stand alone fixture with a color you choose or stand alone color fading or go a step up and get controllers off of a computer and make them all sync together or do whatever whenever in any color, fades, flashes, color jumping, stand on one color, multi color and so on... You can think of it you can program it. And any color. Plus they all can become strobe lights in white and any color. I own 6 grand of these effects. But I do lighting for a living so I am able to go insane.... A great show would be less than 1 grand. And $400.00 of that goes to a one time fee for the software etc. Or again you can go with one color led fixtures which will be much cheaper... But you will probably wanna just upgrade after a year or so...

My personal favorite tutorial for making LED spotlights:
LED Pin Spots
My only recommendation would be to use small diameter PVC instead of copper both for added safety and just because copper is hideously expensive now.

For those of you who are familiar, this site replaced the skull and bone website. Click on the .pdf for "Yard Haunt Lighting".

I'm with Frankie's Girl - we go low tech. It takes a lot of moving them around and alot of cords, but it gets us noticed!! I use the metal stakes though, because I've broken too many of the plastic ones.
