I was at Lowes yesterday and noticed they offer several different guages of extension cords. The inexpensive ones I usually purchase are the green (outdoor) cords, which are all 16 guage.
Has anyone noticed a difference running things (like fog machines) off of a 14 or even 12 gauge power cord? I don't know if it will make a difference, so I thought I would ask.

Depends on how long of a run, the longer the distance the more resistance can happen on anything with a load demand-heaters, motors, anything that requires juice can heat up a cord. Small 400 foggers are "ok", but the best rule is the greater the distance & draw of power - go larger gauge cord.
I try to stay within the 14-12 gauge ext cords for safety. A short run 16 Gauge will work with small foggers....... but i would prefer 14........
I had a marine biz, so I have several HD 10 & 8 gauge ext cords for boats that I use to run anything of major power needs, mostly to run power out safely to a major junction for power needs in a scene that has inadequate power sources plus the have lock connectors at both ends. When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........
