If Im not mistaken any paint will work if you just scuff up the surface first so it can stick.

I used acrylic paint on a x-mas blow mold and when it rained on it it washed right off

You could use Kilz on it first, then use whatever paint you'd like over the Kilz. If you use any kind of craft paint you'll have to top coat it, but once you hit it with the Kilz, you'll be fine.

If you use an outdoor paint (whatever you'd use to paint the exterior of your house) you may not have to topcoat or seal it but craft paint (acrylic paint) will definitely wash off without a sealer of some sort.

I use the acrylic craft paints of various colors.
If I'm coloring the whole skeleton, I dilute the paint with a little water and use a small sponge to wipe it on the bones.
After it dries, I always spray the bones with one or two coats of a good quality clear-coat.
    Works great!

I use canned spray paint and Air Bursh paint. I do use a matte or flat clear coat / sealer. However, I do WASH my bluckies first. This removes and contamination that could stop the paint from adhering well and gets rids of that GID paint they apply, I then wipe it down with a towel. The sandpaper (use only fine grade) works too, but remember the wash it afterwards.

Well, I didn't see this post so I might not get the effect I'm looking for. I just sprayed one of mine with orange Rustoleum florescent paint. Didn't prep at all so I'll have to get some flat clear cloak and see if I can coat it and have it not all rub off. I'm going to go over it with some model paint to highlight the black sine the orange really washed it out with the overcoats. This is a first for me so it's a learning curve.

Revision: I realised that I heavily painted my blucky's with some Rustoleum specialty Glow in the Dark paint. It comes in a can. While sanding what I could of the blucky's just now I realised these were the painted ones. It really stuck on and when it finally came off with my fingernails it pulled the original black paint right out of the blucky. Holds really well without any prep. It didn't glow all that great but, I didn't have a very good light on them and they were about 20 feet away from it.

Quick question on paint for the blucky. I washed the one I'm painting orange. I picked up some Rust -oleum laquer to spray over it to protect it. Does anyone know if this will work? Lowe's paint guy said I could use that or the clear enamel. Both are going to be gloss, couldn't find any matt and can't find Kilz anywhere. Also, has anyone used testers model enamel paint for highlighting areas on them? I don't have an airbrush so have to use model paint to redo the black. I would use a spray paint but, it's not detail oreintated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
