Ok, so I've decided to do a MIB this year since my Monster in the garage project is going to be put on hold til hopefully next year, when I'm living in our new house with single car garage doors.
So, after dedicating many hours playing a stupid video game, I think the mystery box from the game Call of Duty, Nazi Zombies, will make a perfect monster in the box that the kids can not only relate to, but be super surprised when a ray gun doesn't come out, but a monster.
I know a lot of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, so here is a little explanation. In the game, it's you versus a never ending horde of nazi zombies. The only way to survive is to get a good "draw" from the mystery weapon box that contains the games strongest weapons. This game is super popular right now and I think the kids would love to see this in a haunt.
I've been thinking about a good way to scare the kids with this, and I think I want to rig it to my doorbell and have it play its magical tune while it slowly opens to reveal a monster inside when the kids come to get their candy. I'll be using either a picoboo or the nerve center for this, and I was wondering if anyone has rigged anything to their doorbell before. I don't see why this couldn't be used as a trigger on a controller.
I can't find a video of the box in action, but that it plays when opened. Really creepy sound effects. Suggestions welcome! Thanks
Jason

yea, i was actually thinking of having the bear come out and the zombie saying bye bye and maybe something else in my haunt could be triggered at that point, or when it reaches the max open point, maybe something else could pop out and scare em. I actually just thought of it this morning so I'm still brainstorming now. Thanks ctarpey, I think the double acting will work great for a smooth close and open

you can even make it interactive so they can open the mystery box by pressing a button. to get the m more involved

Hey the COD Mystery box. NAZI ZOMBIES!!!!!! Played this WAY to much. The zombie dogs make some nice noises. Perhaps that can pop out of the box.
Seriously it is a great idea to impliment todays culture into a prop.

agreed! i would definitly include the basic concept and change as little as possible from the game. keep the noise and either do dogs or teddy bear and have that pop out.. i saw something on a door bell trigger i cant seem to find it now!

A doorbell is nothing more then a pushbutton. Usually they range from 10-16 volts. You can hook one to a picoboo unit like a pushbutton. Which is fine for a picoboo. 2 wires to connect (1) to GROUND (1) to IN.

Oooooo yea, the dogs!! Forgot about the dogs, I should def do something with that. I was thinking of making a static prop of the mad scientist on the level "Five" and put him in the window and maybe after the box does its thing, lightning will strike and reveal the scientist inside my house.
I plan on making the box as close to the "real thing" as possible, and keeping the music the same too. I might have to spend a lil money on some el panels to do the question marks right tho. I was also thinking of putting a small fogger inside too, and maybe having the box quickly close after it opens and maybe start moving a little.

If you want it to move slowly up and slam down, use a double acting cylinder and put a flow control valve on the rear thread of the cylinder. This way it moves up slowly and slams down when you release the button when programming it.
I would use a zip saw for the ? marks. Gives you complete control to cut them out.
You only need 2 inputs for the picoboo unit for the cylinder and lights, but I suggest you add a relay to the fog machine so when it is going through the up movement you will release fog. It should raise slowly giving you 3-5 seconds to fully extend the rod. This gives you ample time to release fog with a relay because it would be inputed with the cylinder input.
If you need any help just ask.
