    electric styrafoam cutter = awesome

I just picked up one of those electric styrafoam cutters and used it to carve out a tombstone last night.
The styrafoam was 6" thick, 4'X4' and I was dreading trying to use a saw for the main frame and them countless utility knife blades for the details.
So i got an electric one at Joann's Fabric, this store was going out of business so it was only 10 bucks not 20.

It literally cut through the styrafoam like butter, well....almost like butter, this stuff was thick.

I need to figure out how to use it for the details though, not just the big shape cuts.

    Anyone else use this tool?

I bought one from Michaels a few years ago that rund on two "D" size batteries, but I was not impressed. The heat is irregular and it seems to bog down even when cutting through 2" of styrofoam.

Is yours battery or plug in? What's it look like?

Can you post a picture of what you purchased? I'd love to see one that actually works!

I'm guessing you purchased the styro cuter plus? That does look handy!

I use the Foam Factory Hot Knives For all my foam cutting. And they work awsome. I think there only like 25 or 30 bucks a knife depending on which one you buy. I have a couple vids on you tube on how I used them to make wall panels.

I use a Tippi foam cutter. It has different wire shapes that fit the same handle. They sell a coping attachment for it as well.

For texturing, I use a Weller butane soldering iron with a torch tip. Sometimes I'll use the hot knife on the butane tool to add features as well.

Anybody know if this cutter works on the foam pumpkins from Micheal's and the like? I'm assuming it would.

I did the brick, mirror frame (both foam), and curtains myself. The software came from imagineerieing.com

I used a gamepad for controlling the mirror face (mapped keyboard commands). Candy was delivered through the bottom of the skull (which is now painted).
You can check my profile for a link to my build and photos before painting.

BTW... PVC candles were a last minute addition. Only took a couple nights to throw the whole thing together.

It gets a make over this year. The TOTs will be surprised. Mirror is being replaced with a drop panel
