What colored bulbs should I use?
Cemetery...I was thinking blue
Witch Scene...I was thinking green...or will this give me a wash out effect as the witch is green?
Spider Nest...this is my main area...it will have a fire pit (we will be having the party outside), but I was thinking red
Im on a limited budget so I was going to use christmas lights or the colored bulbs ($3)....which will give me the best effect? I would also like to add a strobe light to this are.
Thanks so much for all your input....as always you all are AMAZING![]()

Sounds like you've got it figured out.
You can always swap bulbs between the scenes and see if you like different colors for future reference

Thanks Scatterbrains...I was wondering do you think red or purple in the spiders nest? This area is mostly webs, spiders, creepy cloth, moss and egg sacs so I really need my lighting to make it scary.

Purple sounds pretty good to me,......a "venom green" might look good also.

This is a great question. But, there is no real answer. You just have to "Play" with it. I'm in the final stages of a prop and last night I looked at it under different color lights. To my surprise, several lights, colors that I thought would work, didn't.

Depending on how big the area is, I would go with spot lights. You can get conventional incandescent lights for jus a couple dollars more than the christmas lights and you will get a lot more light. They do get very hot though. If money wasn't an issue, I would recommend LED lights..we switched to them a couple of years back and they give off a bette light and use less electricity...but they are more expensive. Although you could make your own pretty cheap.

My Spiders' Lair will be a combo of a blacklight and a red spotlight...I think the red will really make the webs pop!
If your Spider's Nest area has a fire pit, blue lights would contrast well with the orange flame. But an orange flame with red lights would also look creepy!
For the last few years, my Cemetery has had red spot lights, but this year I think I'll switch over to blue.
For my Witches Scene, I was thinking green just like you, but realized that would probably not illuminate a bunch of green witches very well! So, I think a red spotlight on all of the witches and a clear light on the scene's background will work out okay.
Definitely try out your lights with different scenes before the big night...this way you won't have a red spotlight on red blood!

Let me see if I can talk you into LED's. You state you are on a limited budget and I can appreciate that fact however LED's will offer the best value over time not to mention incredible lighting. I realize the up front price for LED's is quite expensive however the miniscule power draw plus the longevity of the bulbs will far outweigh that of incandescent lighting.
Here is an example of LED lighting.

I agree you need to play with the lighting as you are putting up your display I think a mix of colors on a scene looks way better than one color as you can see from rupertoooo's pic above.
