A couple of weeks back, I bought a stone colored skull at Garden Ridge which I transformed into a DDLM sugar skull. Just another indoor, easy and fun project. Has anyone else painted a skull in this style?

Never considered doing that to a plastic skull before, but it's a neat idea. Looks good, Courtney

Your skull looks great! I might have to make one like this.

There are other holidays besides Halloween? When did they start that?

If you're interested...I have researched images by Sylvia Ji. Her paintings are gorgeous.
This is the makeup style I used

I like it. I'm a fan of the sugar skull look. Unfortunately, I don't own any and I haven't tried to tackle that one yet. Looks good!

I painted a paper mache skull in the DDLM style for my little brother(died a few years back in a car accident) in what has become a tradition of sorts for me. I used the bright green that he had painted his bedroom walls with as a basecoat, and then did spiderwebbing and ankh's all over it in black, white and red. Still trying to figure out what to do with the blank one that I picked up for this year...

i recently did this custom carved bench for a charity art auction in the DDLM style. I'm curating an art show november 2012 which will feature a bunch of artists doing pieces with a DDLM theme.

    Muy buena, Cortney and keithcorcoran!
I enjoy seeing the Dia de los Muertos decorations (although they're more prevelent in Sante Fe and Tucson than in Houston), but it would be challenging to work into our haunt theme.

Looks great, Courtney! Man, that is a lot of make-up to put on, though. If I can make one suggestion, do the white lips like the web photo you shared - for some reason that really puts it over the top.
