I've never seen this linkage although I would imagine someone has done it before.
Last night I animated the moving head for my "Frankenstein" lifesize, then I decided I was going to animate the arms as well.
Utilizing the motion of the central pipe, I devised a method of raising /lowering the arms as well.
This is in VERY EARLY development, and I'm pretty certain the motor doesn't have enuff torque to raise the foam forearms (not shown) of the creature as they are quite heavy. Although, the alternate raising of the arms may assist the mechanism somewhat acting as a counterweight to some degree.
Most of the Piping is merely scrap that I've tossed together. At this point the armature for most of this mechanism has no glue/ screws, its just stuck in place...
Any ideas/ Thoughts?
What motor would you suggest? (I'm on a tight budget).
What armature would work better raising and lowering the arms (or am I simply on the wrong track here?).
You guys are the best. Throw me a bone OK?!!
Thanx!

That's pretty clever! Simple and very effective.

great setup! Nice smooth motion! Don't know what else I can offer constructively. Looks good to me! What motor are you currently using?

Great work! Love the mechanics behind it. I cant wait to see the finished project.

It looks like you are on the right track. Go with the vent motor you have. The motion is good. Just keep the arms and hands light weight. I think you are correct that the arms will counterbalance each other. Once you get it built, you will see if you need to step up to a larger motor, say a rotisserie motor. It would be easy enough to swap out motors with minimal linkage adjustments.
This is a very nice design for motion.

Just my 2 cents but if I were to step up to a larger motor I would consider one from a household
mixer as they have to have the torque to mix the dough. As for the rest I wouldn't change a thing
I like it, as stated very clever.

Very clever,nice job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is the motor that are you using right now?
If the arm are too heavy,I don't think the mechanism will work, even with a high torque motor.

If the vent motor doesn't handle the weight after you put the arms on, go to a wiper motor. With a sufficient power supply, such as an ATX (computer) power supply and this controller, it will run forever at whatever speed you want.
Great concept!Nostalgia isn't what it used to be...
