    Are those gears homemade? Perhaps my eyes are deceiving me, but are those made of wood, plywood? If so, please more info! I could use gears in sooo many projects if I just knew some way to produce them cheaply and effectively on time.

    I am thinking it would be nice to try to make them out of some kind of plastic. Maybe acrylic. I have a scroll saw that I have used to cut plastic sheet on. Just need one of those reverse tooth blades to reduce the amount of melting. Although wood is likely still easier to work with.

    The idea of using different gears is pretty cool. It does change the movement. So it is more random.

    CycloneJack: yes they are homemade gears cut from 3/4 plywood. I used the gear generator I found here: http://woodgears.ca/gear_cutting/template.html and his tutorial: http://woodgears.ca/gear_cutting/plywood_gears.html to cut them out
