I have the Hallowindow that I use in my front window every year. My neighborhood loves it and cars always stop to watch. Of course it is best if you can hear the sound effects with it, but i have 2 younger kids and I dont want to blast the sound through speakers all night for them and the neighbors sake. I would love to have a small fm transmitter that would broadcast just around my house and put a sign to show what to tune to. Problem is I have no idea what I need and dont want to spend much if possible. Can anyone help me? Maybe tag a website or ebay item so I know what I need to get? Thanks in advance!

If you are just wanting Trick or Treaters in 20-50 ft proximity to your house to listen...then a ipod fm transmitter would suffice. Even the cheaper ones do well. You can get them about $5 on eBay.
Something like this:

Or this:

You'll need to find out which 4 channel transmitter works best in your area.

Thanks Eyegore. I especially like the price! But, how do I hook up the Hallowindow video/ sound to this? I am currently use a dvd/projector that i havehooked up the stromger speakers to play outside. How do i use the ipod transmitter for this set up? Or will it not work? I dont know much about all the ways to set this kind of system up so the easier the better although i am good about following directions.

Yea, I use a cheap FM transmitter like the one Eyegore posted for Christmas. The one I have will transmit about 1/4 mile.
What is the audio output of the DVD projector? Is it like a headphone jack or is it RCA jacks (the red and white kind)?
What ever it is, if it's the headphone jack just plug the transmitter into that. If its RCA jacks, you would need an adapter that has RCA jacks on one end and a female headphone jack on the other end. If you're wanting the transmitter and speakers playing at the same time you would need a cable plugged into the audio out jack and then an audio splitter plugged into that. Then run one side of the splitter to your speakers, the other side to the FM transmitter.
Or just use the FM transmitter and put a radio out in the yard tuned to the frequency of the transmitter for outdoor sound too.

Thanks Daveinthegrave. My projector has both so hopefully i can run the transmitter and the external speakers at the same time. Glad I am starting early so I can fiddle with it! Love this forum!

the one you are looking for is called the whole house transmitter
and there is another called ramsey fm25b which i use for halloween, they both work well, you simply find a fm station not being used and the transmitter will lock in,you post a sign outside with the fm station for them to see,you can connect any audio jack to it and the sound will come out through any home stereo/car stereo, hope this helps

Thanks! I checked it out and it's comes unassembled. For an extra $50 they'd assemble it. So, was wondering... is it easy enough to assemble yourself? If so, is it a big project?

no its not easy to assemble, i won mine assembled on ebay got it cheap ,off season is the best time to start looking on ebay,if not the the whole house transmitter works good too,but buy the fm frequency not the am frequency, tried it and it does not pick up to good. cost is under 100 dollars.i promise you, you will be happy with either one.

Terra, this is the exact one I use and even though the specs say it only transmits 30 feet, trust me I can hear the Christmas music coming from my Light Show box on my car radio very clearly up to 1/4 mile away or more. (Don't tell the FCC !)
Now, unless this manufacturer has changed the specs on it, this one should do the same thing.
Can't beat the price for giving it a try. I had ordered mine from China also, but it came in about 2 to 3 weeks.
