Hi everyone. I've lurked around this forum for the last year and have been really impressed with the amazing projects a lot of you take on. I finally decided to take the Haunted Mansion as my loose-ish inspiration for this year's Halloween Party and took on a project to build a massive chandelier to hang in the back yard as a part of the "ballroom" area. Anyway, I just finished it (mostly) and wanted to share a couple photos - I just used hula hoops, some cpvc, spray paing and acrylic crystals that I salvaged off beaded crystal curtains. It's about 11' tall by 5.5' wide at the moment!

That is so cool! What a neat idea. It's so big, but it looks light, is it? It's quite pretty with the candles lit. I like the idea of a Haunted Mansion theme, it's been my favorite ride at any park for 25 years!

Thanks, everyone! I'm pretty proud of it as it was a lot of effort but overall the whole thing was pretty simple in construction. It is very light b/c it's all pvc and plastic - I'd say about 30lbs at most. My plan is to hang it very high over the backyard which is where I want to create the ballroom scene. I've strung a very taught thick wire between two trees with a pully in the middle to raise and lower it.
The candles are sitting inside 90 degree pvc elbows which I glued directly to the frame and then reinforced with lots of electrical tape...which surprisingly doesn't look that bad at all - I just couldn't trust the cpvc adhesive to work long term on it's own. I used 3/4" elbows which fit basic flicker led candles perfectly.
Thankfully the whole thing collapses flat for storage. I am in the process of building a box to store it before the storms get here this weekend.

I was thinking Phantom, too! It would be great to rig it up to "drop" and then the Phantom of the Opera would appear somewhere (actor)!
