Hey guys looking for a cheap motor that can either stop a head turning and go back the other way or a 180 degree turning motor that then turns the other way. basically i need a head to turn back and forth simply. the last motor i tried didnt work very well. a link would help.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I would say use a wiper motor. You can build a left/right turner mechanism yourself.

If you to to Frightprops them have a mechanism that does this.
You can watch the video to see how it works. I made one similart using a lazy susan that turned my reaper left and right.

You can get wiper motors from Frightprops or Monsterguts. MG's are a little cheaper.

If you have the motor Buckineerbabe suggested, then you're halfway home for the slow motion. Either a mechanism like Jack Skellington showed or this one by DaveintheGrave should work (click the movie in the link).

    Moving Eyes Mechanism

I'm going to try to make something along the lines of Dave's mechanism as I like the pauses it has at each end of the head/eye motion. My display will be a demon turning his head slowly from side to side, and I like the dwell after each turn.

Why not use a deer motor, It only rotates one direction. But the deer heads move back and forth. Use the same type of linkage. Just a single pivot point with an arm that moves the head back and forth.

What I have found to be an easy and creepy movement is when you place a mask over an oscilating fan. Of course, you should cut off the fan blades first! It's a really cool effect--last year, I had a crypt creature mask moving back and forth, and suprisingly, many TOT's commented on how creepy that movement was.

These mini fans are sold at Wal-Mart for $8 or $9 I believe.
