I thought I would just ask if anyone else here had a notion to convert blow mold flamingos into skelemingos? It just hit me the other day when I found the pink flamingos at the Dollar Tree. I bought a few and I am working with them this weekend. Heres a sample photo before I have painted the bones on. Here is a photo of skelemingos that you can buy already made but....not for a 1.00.
This also just seemed like a fun cheap project and a great addition to the pirate scene. Is anyone else doing this? If so can you post pics of how they turned out?

I bought a whole flock of the pink flamingos (in two different sizes) from Walgreens last year on summer clearance with the intention of doing the skelimingos as a project. Haven't begun it yet though so don't have any pics to post. I kept a pic of that same photo you posted of the finished guys for my reference too!
Since I have so many birds to do I thought I would mention that I plan on making a template of the bone pattern so that I can tape the template on to each bird, trace and then paint. Since I have two sizes and with different head positions I'll have to modify one and create a second template but it should save me a whole bunch of time.
Love to see a photo of your fnished birds Mr. Gris.

Shadowbat thats good to know I missed a post mabye where they spoke about these.
GOS I was thinking templates may save time as well but since I am only doing a few I suppose I can just put on a Halloween movie and paint away
I would love to see yours when you finish some and I will add pics when I am done. The second coat of black is drying as I type.

Mr. Gris I posted about DT flamingos awhile back under the Big Lots/Dollar Tree thread, but am sure others have done so under maybe the shopping thread which is so long it's easy to miss some of the posts. I'm surprised by so many early season threads this year and all the new names I'm seeing (and loving it!). I saw that under the Dollar Tree thread a number of people mentioned buying them for this purpose so hopefully they will see this thread and add some photos of their completed ones.
BTW have you considered painting the "white bones" with GID paint? I'm not sure if my yard gets dark enough to really see the glow (we have street lights nearby) but I'm considering using it anyway.

Its also good to see Halloween minds think alike! LOL
GoS, youre right. There have been ALOT of early findings this year.“Do you know the terror of he who falls asleep? To the very toes he is terrified, because the ground gives way under him, and the dream begins.”

Man those look great.
They'd look even better at a Day of the Dead celebration.

That's AWESOME. I lovethis idea! I wonder if the manufactured ones are glow-in-the-dark. Or, how cool these would be with a light inside or with a blacklight for night time viewing.

I did one from a 1980's bird(probably shouldn't have done that) but I don't have a good pic.
I DID paint it white first then laid the bone cut outs over it and sprayed it black. When dry carefully remove the stencils. I used plastic paint but still had a hard time with scratches.
