Hello, everyone! My theme this year is Hell on Earth. I would like to make it look as though the ground is breaking open, releasing demons pulling corpses out of their graves. Here is the problem...my yard is above the road technically and not a steady slope. So unless you pull into my driveway, very little can be seen. I was considering building an angled platform to cut cracks in and then use red lights underneath. Any other ideas? How can I make it look more like a hill, less um...platform-y?

How big is this going to be? It could get very expensive if you're covering a large area with a plywood platform and then disguising the platform with astroturf... It might be cheaper to lower the slope than to build the platforms. Do it now so that you'll have some grass grow time...

That would be the best solution for sure and I would totally do that if I owned the home...but I rent.
The bonus is that it is very dark. I couldn't tell my cemetery was even on grass.

You can pick up some pretty big tarps at home depot. Dark Green. Plus you can cut slits in it for your demon escaping effect. Even put a fogger underneath. Just build a collapsible PVC frame to hold it up in the rear and angled down the sides and possibly the middle. The lights near the slits and the fog escaping out them around the demons should look great. Frankly you have given me a great idea for my yard. Thx

Can you use the front hill as a pre-view to what is going on up top. Plus lots of lighting and fog.
Maybe can you make the front hill look like it is also cracking and add an animated ghoul or 2 looking like they are trying to crawl up the hill to safer areas. but then the top is worse as teh TOT's arrive to see the "Hell on Earth" carnage???

Other than decor to lure them in to the top section not much you can do permanent wise

Depending on how much dirt you can/are willing to move you could cut a pie shape wedge going straight through the middle of the hill (as you see it from the street) and put the demons on either side pulling unfortunate souls in. This would get the attention of passersby to be sure. Do you have have pics of the area in question?
    Undead and loving it!

Maybe chickenwire formed into the hill shape you want and then covered in great stuff foam and spray painted in fiery colors with lights underneath. If there are any gaps it should shine thru fine. I figure this will be light weight and you can move it around or make muliple ones just at the grave sites where the corpses are being pulled up. Make sure and show pics

I will get a couple pics up today. I realize it's hard to visualize. As for animation, I'm not quite that skilled yet lol. I'm loving all the suggestions though! To be continued...

Ok here is my chicken coup house waaaaaaay in the background. I'm thinking now the hill is not the issue but the yard's angle, large area, distance and landscaping are challenging so the heightened props are needed to see the display. Basically, if I set up flat, linear props, they actually kind of block each other. I certainly need to invest in 500 ft extension cords!
