Hey all,
I was recently discussing a common "issue" with some of the guys of a local haunters group. Seems a few of us are having a hard time finding really inexpensive MP3 players these days. What we are looking for are pretty basic... doesn't need very much memory, as we're just wanting players that can loop a single track over and over. These won't even be hooked up any prop controllers... they will simply be used in various places around the haunts to play looped tracks (such as whispering, howls, etc). So two questions for all of you bargain gurus...
1) Anyone know of a good source for really inexpnsive MP3 players? Don't care what they look like or much else for that matter..
2) Is anyone else interested, and has anyone ever tried to organize any kind of group buy of inexpensive MP3 players? If we can find a source for inexpensive and basic MP3 players , would anyone be interested in a group buy?

Try Big Lots. They usually carry knock off brand electronics for what you are looking for.

Thanks, teabags. I checked a Big Lots recently, but only found FM recievers, no MP3 players. But I think there are at least 20 Big Lots stores within a 30 mile radius, so I probably need to spend a day sometime checking them all. Could be timing too... I'll keep my eyes on BL. Remember when you could find small-memory MP3 players for like $5? What happened to those???

I havent looked recently, but I definitely need at least min 2 more mp3 players. i got mine for $9 at Best Buy after Christmas doorbuster sale though. I feel as though I might have seen some mp3 players at target for around $10, but that was awhile ago. if I were to look I would try target or walmart first.
I am also looking into cheap speakers that I can plug into my mp3 players for mini sounds in my 6 foot sections of displays. Walmart has these for $19 a pair but I am looking for cheaper. if you come across it I would be interested to know!

You can find cheap ones on woot.com and find the link for daily deals. Also 1saleaday.com you can find sansa's for cheap and they are small so they can be hidden anywere on a prop.

I just saw one that looked like the first version of the iPod shuffle that was a 2gb for 12.00 at my local RiteAid yesterday.
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

Those all vanished a couple of years ago. They were sold for use as giveaways at trade shows and such. Last year I found them at a HK supplier for $8 each, but they wanted $20 shipping - each. If you ordered 50 of them, like for a group buy, the shipping would be $1,000. I asked them two or three times about the shipping charge just to make sure I hadn't misunderstood them, and it was true - $20 per player.

I found the 16MB player here:
http://www.watchcloseouts.net/ecomme...roduct~618.htm
I emailed them to check price and availability. They have a $200 min. order, so you'd need to get 30 players if the price is as shown on the web site ($6.85). I'll post more info when they get back to me.I...have many names...
