Is 12" high x 10" wide a normal sized looking head?
Or is it too small?
If it's life size I'd like use it as a head on a PVC framed body.
Opinions?

I'm dealing with that issue myself with the Dog Soldiers werewolf I'm working on. I haven't gotten the finished head back from the taxidermist yet, so I don't know what size mannequin to get. I have two German Shepherds, one is about 120 lbs and the other is about 80 lbs. Looking at their heads, the bigger dog's head would look good on a 6'3" mannequin, but too big on a 5'10" one. The smaller dog's head would be fine on a 5'10" one, but too small on a 6'3" one, so I'm guessing the size of the head would be largely based on how big the mannequin is going to be.

12" high x 10" wouldn't be too small. if it includes the neckline that would make it about average. Most faces measure about 8-10 inches long and 6-8 inches wide. Of course, people come in all different sizes and weights. I am sure you would be fine.
As far as a dog headed creature goes, its open to imagination, but I think most of the time Hollywood puts forth a hybrid animal/human creature like that, they proportional enlarge or reduce the animal head to fit the human body. Werewolves, Minotaurs, etc.
