I am wanting to duplicate this spider. I am looking for the same speed and fluidity that is in the video. Can anyone tell me how to make this mechanically?? I have never made props that aren't static before and this year will be my first time and building props that move.
Help!!! please.
Ty
And if you can break it down in to laymen terms....i would love you forever.

If I remember correctly that is just a FCG spider, there is a how-to on this site: http://softlyspokenmagicspells.com/halloween/dcs.html

Flying Crank Ghost.
This is an adaptation of a Flying Crank Ghost mechanism. It is a motor that is mounted above. The motor is horizontal and has an arm attached to the shaft. The arm on the end has a ring that has 4 cables attached. Equally spaced around the ring. Those cables then go out to 4 eye bolts that allow the cables to hang down. From there each cable is attached to two cables that go to the matching legs of the spider. As the arm rotates it pulls the cables and as it arcs in a circle it lengthens and shortens the cables and thus the legs of the spider raise and lower.
Try doing a search on FCG

What motor should be used? Recommendations?

Depends on the weight. –

The weight of the spider determines the motor. You will want a motor that has a low RPM. Say 5 RPM. So it will be what is called a gear motor. You could use a wiper motor. Good choice because they come with an arm.
Go to http://monsterguts.com/
I am sure others will have some other options for you.
Keep in mind you need to power it. A wiper motor is DC Like your car. If you want to plug the motor into the wall directly you will need an AC gearmotor.
