I've started working on a mermaid prop for this year. Had been thinking about it for a couple of years, figured I had to do it now that there are finally mermaids in POTC. She should fit right in to my pirate haunt. Blucky torso, PVC spine, the tail is my first attempt at using a corpsing technique.
Here's what I started with to visualize the finished product:

Dang - that's VERY impressive. What did you use for the "tailbones" going down the length of the tail? LOVE it.

Awesomely innovative. That turned our great. I saw someone talking about carpet adhesive in a forum a few days back. It seams like it would be very economical for coating large surface areas. You application shows how cool of a surface you can get with it.

Great design looking forward to the pics of the finished project. What did you use for the bone in the tail? Thinking of making a small one for my freak show

Wow, njwalk, I'm glad POTC added a mermaid theme this year! Absolutely love how you envisioned the tail. It totally makes the prop. Very clever use of the skeletal frame and pantyhose. You might have inspired me to try my hand at one. I have a pirates theme it could be used in and also thought it could be a prop in my carnival sideshow. I love being able to repurposed props with not a lot of effort.
Thanks for sharing with us. I can't wait to see how she turns out when you are done with her. How much time would you guess you have in to her so far? Also curious how long it takes carpet adhesive to dry.
