Here are some rendered pics of a crate I am hoping to get around to building. I usually use solid works for all my props because it allows me to make changes if I don't like how it turned out. As of right now the inside is empty but I am planning on rigging it with a cam system on a wiper motor.
I plan on wrapping a chain around it.
Here is the first crate I did
I highly recommend using solid works (if you have it) for simple stuff like tombstones. You can change the shape and the text and the alignment of the text as you wish without running out of foam lol

Its a program engineers use. It is similar to auto cad. It allows 3d modeling and then creation of drawings based on the model. You can build just about anything... virtually.
I got a copy for free with my university. You can also render images of the item as well.

SolidWorks is a very popular Computer Aided Design(or CAD fr short) software that is widely used in the engineering field. I have used it for the past 4 years now and it is awesome for designing stuff. You create objects by drawing a shape, then extruding it to a 3d object. Then you can cut, mangle, and form this object to your liking. CAD files can then by transfer to a CAM software and used to create an actual part on a CNC, or 3D printer.
Look into Google Sketch-Up, its a free CAD style software that you can use to design props and even you house and yard. That way you can actually play with layouts and see how it would look digitally before the big day.

Well good thing you mentioned sketch up... I haven't used it since I got Solidworks. Sketch up would work for most props found here on the forum. Its also FREE! Like I said I didn't have to pay for my copy of solid works so I am using that but I think its kinda expensive.
Does sketch up allow animation like solid works?Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see

No idea, I played with sketchup back in high school, once I got into trade school and college it was all Solidworks. Yeah, solidworks is expensive, however I have about 3 years left of demo cds I snagged from the SkillsUSA conference I went to. The guy behind the table just laughed when I grabbed a handful and stuffed them in my bag.
