Does anyone know if there is a thread out there for a "How To" of fog flowing out of broken pipes (PVC)?

Fog out of broken pipes.
You need to explain the effect you are looking for better. If you just want fog to escape a pipe, then hook some flexible hose to the pipe and have the fogger shoot into the hose. Then cut some gashes in the pipe where you want it to appear to be broken. If you cap the end the fogger will more than fill the pipe with enough fog.

What I was looking to do is have smoke (fog) enter a piece of PVC pipe at one end and work it war threw the pipe exiting out broken areas that I made. What I am not sure of is how to get the fog from ground level high enough to have the fog exit a area above a door. I am looking to have the TOT walk threw a area that looks like steam (fog) is escaping from the pipes. How do I get the fog to raise high enough? Will the warm fog rise on it own?

Yup sure will. In fact that is what most of us don't want. That is why we use fog chillers to keep it cold and low to the ground. You should have no problem. It will likely rise from the openings.

Sounds like you are trying to make this effect?

That's chilled fog. Here's a close-up of how it's made to go through the pipes:

There is a cap on the end of it. This is called the Fog Curtain and made by Vortex Chillers (the same guy that invented the Vortex Fog Chiller: http://www.vortexchillers.com/fogcurtains/door1.html
Here's some more pictures:

One lesson I learned is that you must have extremely fast dissipating fog fluid. It will look more like steam and won't fill up your haunt room with fog.

This is great Tarra. This helps alot. Acouple of question thou:
1. Where do I find extremely fast dissipating fog fluid? Just on line?
2. What are the sprayers where the fog is coming out of?
3. If you chilled the fog, how did you get the fog to the top and look like the fog is forced out?
4. If I put hole randomly throughout the pipe, do you think I could get the same effect even with the holes?
5. How much piping do you think a 700w fogger would support?
Sorry for all the question but this tends to happen when I see thinking cool and it deals with Halloween. Thanks

1: I talked with Wil (owner of Vortex Chillers) at Transworld. He said he was working with a source to get that fluid. I was planning on calling him later this summer to see if he got that all worked out and to get some. He may have it already if you want to give him a call. He loves to talk fog too so have any fog questions ready. He's such a terrific resource.
2: Don't want to give his secrets away but I will tell you they are made of PVC.
3: Because there is a cap on the end...it moves by sheer momentum because there is no where to go other than forward through the pipes. Once it comes out of the holes, the fog falls down just like chilled fog.
4: I would try that and report back to us! I've wondered the same thing
5: Probably the same as mine but less coverage. Because you were looking for a broken pipes effect should still look good. My fogger is a Magnum 850. It is routed in 3" pipes to a height of 6'.
Near the end of this video it shows the fog curtain in action:

Froggy's has fast dissipating.

My 700W machine can push 20 ft of pipe on its own (level surface). Beyond that, and you'll need in-line fans...which I would guess is how she's getting the fog up top, but will let her answer with certainty.
edit: well, she beat me to it.
Edit II: Come to think of it, my 700 fogger has pushed fog up 7ft in the air on an 8 ft pipe before...Last edited by UnOrthodOx; 06-15-2011 at 05:23 AM.

Fun thread!
I have been thinking of building something like this or maybe even buying this prop. It just looks cool and would be something different in my haunt.
I haven't been too motivated the past month though. Absolutely NO PROPS have been built or even touched in awhile.
Terra, which fluid were you using with the curtain last year?
