Good Evening.
I have an idea for a pneumatic prop but I really have no idea where to start. I'm looking to either fabricate or purchase a device that will allow a prop to travel horizontally for approximatley three feet at ground level.
Has anybody done anything like this or seen something similiar?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Well, I think at ground level you are better off using cylinders with sliders from a sliding door. I would use 2 tracks split apart depending on the size on the prop. Fasten it to the wheel on each side. Place what you want to move either directly to the wheels or create a frame and fasten your prop to that. Attach your cylinder to this main unit. One cylinder with a bore of more then 1 inch should support it. The armature is the tricky part if you want it to lunge 3 feet.
If you want the prop to be suspended then fly forward then a scissor prop is the way to go.

I was thinking about creating a fram out of channel for a wheel mounted "sled" to ride on and mounting a scissor mechanisme in the horizontal position. I am concerned about the potential for the mechasim to sag though.
Where did you find the track in the image you posted?

It will sag even more so horizontal postion with weight on the end at its peak distance. I would only use a scissor vertical for horizontal movement. Although 3 feet isn't to bad of a distance and you might be able to swing it.
I found the track on ebay, you can also use computer desk sliders and bifold door tracks.

scissor mechs are going to give you the distance you want form a little stroke on a cylinder. the drawer slides will make the slide easier, that is if you can find 3 feet slides. Wheels on a frame would be better.

you could also attach wheels (provided they are small enough) to the scissor mech they will help support it... I am assuming this will be moving along the floor?

If you going to make your own guide with wheels. Why not just attach the cylinder you are going to use directly to the sled. You will need some give so put pivot brackets so it can move slightly, unless you are positive it will move linear without stress. Then you can use just mounting brackets.

Actually, the prop wil lbe used outside to move a zombie baby towards the viewer.
I'm leaning towards the track with sled idea. The trak would be build out of channel with two pieces of all thread running the lenght of the track. There would be two holes in the sled that the all thread would pass through to keep the sled on track and contain it as a safety precution.
I'm assuming I'd need a rather long stroke if I attached the clyinder direcly to the sled.
