I'm working on an FCG ghost project and am wondering what the best motor speed is. 3 RPM or 6 RPM?

You need to get a feel for the motion. Try mimicking the ghost yourself. Just take your arms and move them like the ghost. At 6 RPM it will take the ghost 10 seconds to complete one full movement. At 3 Rpm it will take 20 seconds.
So raise and lower you arm and then raise it again in 20 seconds. Seems kinda slow to me. And don't forget that the length of your crank determines how far the arm travels. So if you use a crank that is 1 ft, then the ghost arm will move 24 inches. Same goes for the head. That might be too much.
I think the 6 RPM will be better. Also it will help to know if you are looking at DC or AC motor. The Advantage of the DC motor is if the prop runs too fast, it is easy to slow it down.

Mine is about 8 rpm, and I think it looks pretty good. As spinman said, it is your choice. Most likely, nobody watching it is going to say that it is too slow/fast. Good luck!

I'm trying a different approach to the FCG effect, one that uses three motors, and I'm thinking I might try a 3 RPM for the head/body and a 6 RPM for the arms.

I was thinking of using three motors. –

I have a long term project in mind. A giant flying ghost of the peak of my roof. I want to put up a pole at each end of the roof and run a thin cable across between them. Then three small nylon pulleys for the three lines to the ghost. The lines would run down the back of the roof to the three motors. Each would receive a slightly different voltage which would result in a more random movement. The challenge I face on the project is finding a way to anchor the poles. Rather than call it a long term project, I might call it a pipe dream. LOL !!!

Ours is 6 RPM I like the movement from it. I look forward to seeing your FCG with 3 motors, that will be tricky to set up though.....
What I am going to need is your standard flame thrower...

Can you guys recommend a good "inexpensive" motor that is a 6? I'm purchasing a fcg rig next month and want to know the most durable one to use. I'm installing the ghost in a homemade crypt.

Is 3 dollars cheap enough and it's DC which is more safe outside than most AC motors.
This motor says 4rpm but I get 5 or 6 out of them with a 12v 1amp power supply

I had one running for 3 days, now, none stop on a peeker prop, just to see if it will burnout

It's either going to be the easiest/cheapest way to make a FCG, or the worst way.
