Thought I would share this under the prop building section too. If you are looking for an inexpensive dremel-like tool kit to do light projects like foam tombstones and other haunt props or facades, I just picked up a 60-pc 12v mini-drill set at BIG LOTS! for only $10.
Here's a link to a picture of it that I posted under the Dollar Tree/Big Lots General Discussion thread: Dollar Tree / Big Lots 2011 items
It comes with 1 UL approved transformer; 10 mounted grinding stones; 20 diamond points; 1 milling cutter; 1 cutting wheel mandrel; 1 buffing wheel mandrel; 2 drum sanding mandrels; 4 buffing wheels; 1 honing stone; 4 drum sanding sleeves; 8 cutting wheels; 2 copper collets; 1 wire brush, 1 nylon brush, 3 drill bits. Runs on 120v/60Hz, Output DC 12V/500mA, no-load speed: 12,000/min; collet capacity 1/8 in. and 3/32 in. It does have a 1-year limited warranty but for $10 probably doesn't matter as shipping it would be more expensive these days!

Thanks for the tip, Spookie! I already have a dremel, but for $10 that's a steal.

I'd like to see a comparison of the low-dollar rotary tools someday. Harbor Freight always has this one on sale for $6.99: http://www.harborfreight.com/power-t...kit-97626.html

I actually just bought that one from Harbour Freight yesterday. Unfortunately in doesn't come with a depth guide, so if anyone knows where to find one of those on the cheap, I would appreciate it. Let you know how it is.

Since I've never used one before and not even sure what all the tips do, I'm not sure I'd be the best person to offer up a comparison between a high-end model and this inexepensive model. I bought it really for working with the XPS board (pink extruded polystyrene) so would be totally surprised if it couldn't handle that. Figure I will be carving out lettering and creating texturing with it. If it weren't for halloween and this forum I doubt I'd ever own a tool like this! and sure there are others out there like me however.
The Harbor Freight model looks interesting and is priced well too. We don't live near a Harbor Freight so I'd have to have it shipped and that would bring the price to $14 for me. I see that the drill motor on the HF one is faster, not sure if that matters for the jobs I want to do with it, and it does have 20 additional parts. Only a 90-day warranty on the HF one if that matters. Does it come with a carrying case like the BLs one?
I don't have any foam board to work on right now but was thinking of dropping by Home Depot and picking some up (sure hope they haven't pulled it with warm weather coming). If I have a chance to experiment, I'll let you know what I think of the BL model.
