I saw this straw bale on Target's website tonight but you see them being sold all over the stores during the fall. It occurred to me that it would be pretty easy to make your own hay bale using a rectangular box, spray glue and shredded paper such as grocery bags (no printing) or brown craft paper and some twine.
We have a paper shredder at home that just cuts strips and it would be perfect for making DIY "hay" that could be glued on to a box and then the box bound with some sort of bale twine wrapped around it to make it look more like the real thing.
Any chance someone out there has made their own already and can post some pics?

Not a bad idea. It would be a great way to disguise a fog chiller too!

but I have thought about trying it before!
I lived in a desert for 3 years, and wanted some hay bales very badly. I have seen the one on Target, but was worried about the sturdiness of it, and never bought it.
I wanted to set items on the hay bale, etc.
Since I can get hay this year, I have given up on making. If you do make, please post pics!

We'll be making faux hay bales for our "Haunted Cornfield" yard display- got a cardboard shredder available to us, so we thought we'd cover smaller oblong boxes we don't shred with the shredded material. Plan on hiding LED blacklights inside as well as the fogger. I'll post some pics when we get around to more than the idea phase- if we stay on schedule *crosses fingers* that'll be in July sometime.
