Hey all,
I've been working on a mummy prop. This one again uses a busted inflatable mannequin, with reenforced legs & torso, stuffed with newspaper. Cheap foam skull makes up the head. Strips of cloth soaked in paper mache mix made up the bandages.
Below are some progress pictures. I wanted exposed ribs, but I think I messed up the skeletal properties, so I may hid them.
The ribs just don't look right, too thick and not curved correctly.
He still needs hands.
Any input?
Thanks for looking

the ribs look fine, maybe fill out the hips and legs a little more to proportion him out, otherwise he looks great, love the face....

Great job! Love his pose and he really dosen't need hands. Just put some fabric pieces dangling where the hands are supposed to be. Very creepy and I see he has a friend with red hair near him in the first pic lol!

That looks great, I agree doesn't really need defined hands just dangle some cloth like blackfog said. I love the face!
Masquerading as a normal person is getting exhausting

Thanks for the comments
I think I'll need to do surgery on the chest. Just not happy with the ribs
The covering is the cheapest white cloth I could fins at a linen store (~ $.50 per foot, standard width of 48 inches). I tore the linen into 1 - 2 inch strips. Soaked in a mix of white glue, water and a touch of brown paint (for aging). Then wrapped around.Doctor Grim

I've updated the prop.
The skin tone on the 1st edition was too light and blended with the bandages too much. The face has been altered to have more of a snarl, and hopefully look more menacing.
The exposed ribs were reshaped to what I hope looks more anatomically correct.
The hands were attached, not painted yet. More bandaging needs to be added to some areas.
I think the final pose will have the left arm reaching out and the right arm closer to the chest, somewhat restricted by the bandage.

BTW, the hands are a new method for me. I used a high density foam (left over packing foam).
The foam was about 1.5 inch thick. I cut lengths equal to the tip of one finger to wrist. Each finger was wrapped tightly with tape to take the squareness away. The fingers were then taped together at the palm area. I added some latex & paper towel.
It really only took 30 minutes for both hands.
On previous props I used coat hanger, wrapped with newspaper and then paper mached. It was a long process (2+ hours to make and then drying time)
The downside is that they are not very posable, where the coat hanger method allowed for the hand to grip things.
I think they look ok.Doctor Grim
