Does anyone know where to buy these cheap? I seen them at Home Depot for around $12 a piece 4x8. Is there a cheaper place to find these?

    Thanks

I get my foam sheets from Mendards (midwest version of Home Depot). They aren't any cheaper though. That stuff is just getting expensive.

    Isn't it a petroleum product?

Check building sites and see if they have any scrap you can have (ask first!), check places like Habitat For Humanity's Re-Store (they sell donated building materials), check Home Depot and Lowes for any damaged pieces - ask a manager for a discount on them (I got some messed up ones where the corners had been crumpled for half price).

Craigslist and Freecycle also sometimes list the foamcore - check under building supplies, insulation sheets, and other variations.

I totally agree with Frankie's Girl, we have purchased the odd piece from HD, but it is expensive! We have received quite a lot of large, mildly damaged pieces from local construction sites; when asked they usually have no problem passing over unwanted pieces. We have also picked up large chunks of Styrofoam from salvage building stores (similar to Habitat for Humanity stores), these kinds of stores are also great places to pick up many other prop necessities like PVC elbows, PVC pipe, foam piping insulation, old hardware; I literally could spend hours in these stores hunting for stuff! Hope this helps!!

I got my first few pieces by just watching the side of the roads....they fall off trucks all the time

I found that the small lumber/construction supply company nearby had better prices than Lowe's or Home Depot. It was only $3 less per sheet, but every bit counts.

Check your local appliance store... some times they throw out the foam packing... it may not be full sheets but you could end up with some odd shapes
