I'd like to build a 10' x 10' witch's shack this year for the opening room of our haunt. In years past I've used canopies but they are a pain to set up, cover, and maintain. Plus, they just don't have any structural rigidity.

What I'd like to do is frame one up using 2x4 and pallet material for the slats. It needs to be able to be disassembled for storage. It will have a 3-foot wide door at each end and I'd like it to have a pitched roof. Of course it needs to shed the water ( It ALWAYS rains on Halloween here in northwest PA).

I'm looking for ideas for walls facades, roof options, and overall look and design. The creepier the better obviously. Any substitutions for heave pallets material.

Any ideas? any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks!!!!

    Mark,
When I first saw the title of the thread I became concerned for you!
I recall a thread with a witch shack that I saw not long ago. I'll see if I can find it. It was constructed similar to what you're describing and it looked nice. I like your idea of a sturdy structure. Once again, you have the jump on me for building!!

Thanks Jerry! I probably should have done a search first to see if anything came up.

I have't done any building as of yet; unless it's building up sack-time on the couch, that is.

It always seems about June I start getting the 'itch' to start building and planning.

Thanks Jerry! I think I can make that work! I also saw another design for a facade that I think I can incorporate.

Depending on how strong the structure needs to be, you might also consider a frame out of 1 x 2s and the walls out of the rigid blue or pink foam. It is water proof and you can carve to look like stones or wood or whatever texture you want.

Thanks azdude. I was kind of thinking the same thing. We get some pretty good winds here in PA in October so I was acutally thinking about using foam sheets with a thin plywood backing. That way I can get the best of both worlds. I may even use a combination of pallet material, plywood, and foam just to vary the textures that I want.

My biggest drawback right now is a roof. I want more than a canopy but cant see any way around having to use plywood covered with a canopy. I may buy an oversized plastic tarp and fray the edges to hang down. Maybe that will add to the creepy factor.
