Hey all,
working on getting materials ready for a new prop soon and going to raw up a design. While at the national haunters convention i visited the creepy colelction where they had this wooden stand that hung 4 or 5 gory props and i said im going to add that to the haunt. some pnuematic props and some static. One my mom really wanted to see was the one in this video. since i dont know if theres a general prop name for this prop i cant find any sort of guide or tutorial to how to get a basic structure. Also ive never worked with 2 cylinders. im someones made something like this or can find a lnk so i can see a similar prop that shows the guts of this thing so i can se how to make it. as of now im alittle wiery on having 2 cylinders and how it works. do you need 2 cylinders and then hwo are they going to run into the controller.
heres the vid:

WOW that is sweet. I may have to join you in the building of this prop. I might have some small cylinders lying around that would work. That is so sweet.....

Possible prop diagram –

Chris,
I am not sure but I think I only see one hose running to the prop. So what you may be seeing is one cylinder mounted with cables running from the rod to the wrists. The cylinder may be a single action like the one you used for your clown, only it is spring loaded to be extended and when the cylinder is activated it retracts. The cylinder may be mounted in the center of the back. It may even be mounted in a ring to allow it to swivel left and right. This might explain some of the somewhat random movement. I will draw a simple picture for you. I am just guessing on this of course.Last edited by spinman1949; 05-25-2011 at 08:43 PM. Reason: Add Drawing

Chris,
I watched the video again. I think the prop has two cylinders. Likely mounted at the elbows. The reason I think this is because it does look like the cylinders are not firing in unison at all times. Of course this means there has to be two hoses, unless the solenoids are inside the prop. I wish we could see the area above the hands in more detail.
My drawing would be a poor mans solution.

I haven't put a lot of thought into this but it seems you might be able to do almost the same thing by just constructing him right and then bouncing him up and down with an electric motor mounted on the beam he is hanging from.

hmm what im thinking guys is taking the basic frame structure for a pnuematic groundbreaker and flipping it upside down so the arms are up like in the video. the cylinder would still be connect upper arm to lower arm. this is just theory but you think this would workim open for ideas and then ill start making up a drawing for how it will be constructed!

Heres a quick diagram i made up on paint to get an idea. If anyone has a suggestion or would like to change something for better design please tell me what you think im open for suggestions. Id its all in agreement then i will get a parts list and possibly use this project as a tutorial.

It would be too voilent for PVC pipe. You could either put flow control or just lower the PSI if you do not want it as violent. It will wear down and crack if you want the same movement you see with PVC.
You have the right idea in your drawing though.
