A couple weeks back I posted a link to an absolutely amazing artist, Jim.

I hope he believes imitation is flattery, for I shall call him Jim:
How? Tin foil over a skull, a lot of hot glue, twine, and patience.
If you are considering making one, some tips:
Apply multiple strands at a time.
It takes longer than it looks.
It takes more twine than you think.
Hot glue is hot...
I'm unsure at the moment whether I will make further ones or not. When my tendonitis in my thumbs quits yelling at me, I just might...

I remember that link... love this!
Are you going to age it with any paint or unravel the strands? I think that would look quite nice.

Still waiting for medication so my hands can move normally.
I was up till midnight with that thing, and haven't really decided where I'm going to actually use it yet. Considering getting some fluorescent dye to put it in the blacklight area, but roughing it up for the general haunt is a possibility as well.

Thank you very much for sharing and sharing the link. Ive never seen anything like that before and my brain is racing with possibilities for my mancave as well as the holiday itself. I keep picturing them in the lucite boxes with the dim light accenting them in the corner type thing.
what size/guage twine did you use?
do you know how much twine you used just on that one prop?I dont hate zombies, I just love killin em.

Whatever I had on hand...and wish it was bigger. (sorry)
The entire spool, and could have used more. (sorry) It was the remains of a big ball I bought last year, all markings were long gone.do you know how much twine you used just on that one prop?
IIRC, Walmart has 3 balls of hemp twine in the craft department. Each a different guage. This was the middle one, mostly full spool. It was rather inconsistent in gauge throughout, so a higher quality twine would probably be easier to work with.
If you are to do it, choose a skull model with larger eye and nose sockets if you can. My one quibble is I wish the nasal passage was more pronounced, but that is the skull model's fault. The Lindberg skull would be ideal, but mine's nose piece has broken...need a new one. A bucky would be OK, not great.
I've been meaning to shop for some new models for a while now, guess it's time.

I've been on the road all day thinking on this, and I'm thinking...I just might do a full torso in this style.
I can just see all that coming out the inside of the ribs...down off the fingers...

He'd be flattered.
Adding a torso would be really cool, like the idea.

Your piece looks great--what a unique prop! I checked out your link to Jim's gallery. He really does some amazing work. Your "Jim" turned out really well. That's definitely a compliment to the artist.
