You should look around on this website. They have lots of different bottles, vials, and other stuff for a mad scientist's lab.

    Etsy also...

I did a search for brown medicine bottles and found a few interesting things:

5 good sized bottles for $12 is pretty decent...

6 (2 are a nice green glass) for $12.75 is a better deal...

    Lots more on there too.

I was going to mention American Science and Surplus but see someone beat me to it. I've bought from them before and a good company to deal with for what it's worth.

Sometimes I've bought bottles at PierOne or CostPlus World Market.

There was another place I had researched looking for bottles to put messages in and as I recall they had all different kinds of bottles and jars. I'll have to see if I can locate their website again.

Also had a good experience with American Science and Surplus. The labware is student grade but the price is the best you'll find without having to bulk order, and unless you're going to be superheating sulfuric acid it doesn't matter at all. They also have lots of other nifty things, some of which are rather nonsensical (bag of plastic gems? scrap paintbrushes?) but have a great price. I believe they also have good prices on green lasers, if you're planning on doing the vortex thing you may as well buy it along with your bottles.

Well I found the company that I had used for the source of my Message in a Bottle invites for one of my summer beach-themed dinner parties, which I was positive also carried amber colored bottles. And they do! Amber bottles and jars in glass and plastic. It's called Specialty Bottle and what I liked about them was the wide range of bottles they carried and the fact that individuals could buy from them in smaller quantities. Here's their website: http://www.specialtybottle.com/index.asp

BTW if when on the website you click on a picture of an individual bottle or jar, it will open a window that will give you the dimensions of it. I always thought that their individual pricing was very reasonable and cheaper than I've found in local stores.

Not sure how "nice" you want them to be but you can get a tin of Kiwi brown shoe polish, rub it on the bottles and use a heatgun or hairdryer to warm it up and get a uniform "film" on the bottles. When it dries it will be hard and vanish like.
