Don't think anyone has posted about the Gemmy "Lights in Flight" firefly LED light strands yet. Here's the link to the Gemmy website page for them. I'm guessing these LED lights run on 120v (someone mentioned finding a Kmart product that I think was solar). Has anyone seen these at Lowes yet? Anyone bought these yet? Curious how the color looks.

Yep, runs on 120v. Selling at Lowes.com for $12.98 a strand of 10. Here's the link to the Lowe's website page. More specs on the product available there. Two positive reviews on them. From what one person wrote they are apparently available in the store too. Cool. Saves me the trouble of coming up with my own solution. Off to Lowes tomorrow.

How about putting them on a large irregular "globe" shaped frame spraypainted black and putting a motor to rotate it so that when the lights blink on they're in different positions?

If they're on long enough individual strands a light breeze should be enough to move them. Or a fan. I just can't tell if they fade in and out like true lightning bugs., ehm...fireflies.
By the way these look like the chartreuse green-colored fireflies of the northwest. Fireflies in the south are an amber-yellow color.

That's a nice price on the Kmart find. Too bad we don't have one close to us anymore. Shipping was $7 and unless ordering enough to make it worthwhile with the unit pricing, it's kind of a wash for me.

I did go to Lowes this morning and picked up a box. The lime green color of the LEDs is nice and close to what I remember fireflies in the midwest looked like. We don't seem to have them where I live now, but I only notice a few mosquitoes here so that's a pretty good tradeoff I guess! I do miss seeing the blinking lightshow at night though.

I would estimate that the bulbs quick ramp on and then are lit for about 6 seconds and then quick fade out, stay out for maybe 8 seconds and then repeat. The effect is not bad at all and I do like the color. I also like that you can connect additional strands if you want. Each strand is rated 12W and you can connect the strand up to as many as 16 other lightshow strands, for a maximum of 178.5 feet. Some bulbs will be on while others are out.

BTW for those that will be looking for them at a Lowes, I found them in the lighting section along with pathway lights. Kind of thought they would be with the patio furniture and patio globe lights section. If you take the Product Number with you 330051, they can check their inventory system and tell you how many they have in stock and where they are located in the store, my location had 8 boxes.

I think they would look very nice hanging inside and down from a tall tree. I'll probably do something with our overhead pergola and hang some from our palm fronds maybe. Arranging on a fence would be another possibility. I thought of suspending them from a slow rotating overhead wheel or spiral shaped mobile but you would have the cord to deal with. Using a rotating electrified Xmas tree stand somehow might be a solution. It will be interesting to see how people end up making use of them.

BTW the Gemmy instructions inside refer to them as the Gemmy Light Show String. Might be another name for people to search for them under.

This reminds me I have a box of the Kmart ones somewhere. I haven't done anything with them, they're still in the box.
