ifright,
You can go to madrix and download a full working version for free. The only thing is that the output goes off every couple of minutes for several seconds. Lowest license for mdarix is $400.00, but it is amazing.

Sorry you are having trouble.
My circuit works in conjunction with the USB to RS232 serial cable. The RS232 end of the cable plugs into the RS232 of my cuircuit. Then any RS232 signals are transformed into RS485 signals (DMX).
Connecting my circuit to the computers RS232 serial port will not work.

ifright,
Yes, I used a usb to serial adapter and plugged that into tour device but Madrix sees nothing and Win 7 only sees the usb to serial adapter. I'm going to try Vinex and see if I can get anythinf grom that. Still, any other suggestions would help.

ifright,
I just tried your circuit with Vixen and also got nothing. Is there some way to test your circuit (my build)?
Thanks again.

Are you using the FTDI US232B USB to RS232 cable specifically? That is the model I have that works with my circuit. The Enttec Open DMX USB uses the same chip as the adapter so I believe it is important that the USB to RS232 adapter have that chip.
Do you have the proper drivers installed for the USB to serial adapter?
In Vixen you have to specify the Open DMX USB option for output. Are you sure you had it configured correctly? You may need to install a plugin for it.
As far as testing - maybe you could connect my circuit to the RS232 serial port of a computer (built in) and use a terminal program to send some data out. Then use a logic probe to see if the signal is transitioning (low to high, high to low) when data is sent out the port. It works in theory in my head anyway.
Or try this: http://www.bigclive.com/dmxtest.htm in place of the logic probe.
